Before the formation of Toto, band members did session work for other musicians. David Paich, the son of session drummer Marty Paich, and Jeff Porcaro (the brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro and drummer Jeff Porcaro) all played on Boz Scaggs’ 1975 album Silk Degrees. The group's collaboration led to formation of Toto in the year 1976.
